It is with regret that we announce that, for health reasons, David Allen-Butler has resigned from the ECC and the Steering Group.
We have spoken with him to confirm his wishes, and expressed our sadness that ill health had necessitated the sale of his Cobra. We also gave our sincere best wishes that his upcoming surgery relieves him from the discomfort from which he has been suffering.
We all recognize and thank David wholeheartedly for the tremendous efforts that he personally put into the ECM in the UK in 2016, which resulted in the delivery of a truly outstanding and memorable event.
We also thank David for everything he put into the ECC, and we wish him well for the future.

Sad news but I fully respect his decision to step down through ill health. Both David and Alan did a stirling job at ECM 2016 which we thoroughly enjoyed and indeed gave us the bug to attend as many future ECM's as possible. We will be thinking of David and trust that his operation will at least give him some respite from discomfort and wish him the very best for the future Charlie Freeman East Midlands Cobra Club Area Rep
Many thanks for your kind words Charlie, and your best wishes for David. He and I very much appreciated your contribution to promoting the UK attendance at ECM 2016. Your continuing "UK recruiting sergeant" role this year has resulted in a satisfying UK representation for ECM 2017 too.
I'm at home most of the time, so I rarely use my mobile. It's therefore often several days before I realise I don't know where it is, and by then the battery is usually totally flat!
Not a bad idea Michel, especially as it could be launched with two experienced and dedicated founder members!
Spookily, my frustration with smartphones was confirmed big time this morning. I have a Motorola Moto G3 phone, and sometimes when the phone rings the answer/reject buttons aren't visible, so I have no way of answering the call! And sometimes, if I dial a number by mistake, I also have no way of ending the call. So I Googled the issue, and found a thread that suggested turning the Android "Talkback" feature on - so I did.
BIG MISTAKE! After 30 minutes of sheer mobile phone hell, I finally found out how to turn the damn feature off again - I wish I'd found this thread before I started! As you'll see, the answer is to use a two finger gesture to scroll down far enough in the Settings menu to be able to turn it off. After that painful experience, I raised a two finger gesture of a different kind to the Android developers!
Sorry for taking this thread off topic, but let my experience this morning be a warning to all future EMNAOC members!

life can be so simple... if you hate your mobile and can not turn it off, there is always a bucket of water close at hand to drown the bastard!! Works every time...
