In the UK, if this were a local council ticket, then you would almost certainly get the fine overturned as it's an obvious mistake. And in any case, due to cuts in local government budgets, my town council no longer has any traffic wardens! However, most car parks here are managed by private companies, and they are ruthless, evil b******s.
I had one ticket that I refused to pay, and the threatening letters and emails carried on for two years. It then went quiet, only to start up again a year later after they sold this "outstanding debt" to an even nastier bunch of cowboys. A year later those too stopped, and it's been quiet since. The worrying thing is that one of the parking companies won a court case a couple of years ago which makes the previous wise advice to ignore the notices and threats riskier now.
Anyway, as you rightly said Roel, the charges relating to these payments aren't worth getting stressed over. They are a tiny fraction of the overall cost of our trip - which is, of course, money very well spent every year!

Indeed! Keep that in mind and you will be smiling all the way to the bank!
