Yes, Welcome Aboard Paul,
during my planning and surveying of the routes of the roadtrips that i have set out for the ECM, i particularly look out for bad roadsurfaces, potholes or speedbumps. Furthermore i drive along all these roads myself and stop to make notes, as to minimize the possible damage to our precious cars.
In the week preceding the ECM i will check all of the routes again, so Alan does not have to worry that he will encounter sinkholes again...
That's very considerate of you Roel - but I couldn't possibly expect you to also vet all the roads (and inevitable accidental detours!) on my as yet undefined route to Liberec!
I blame the pothole incident entirely on my trusty old TomTom. But as they've recently decided to discontinue map updates for our devices, Rob and I have invested in new Garmin Zumo motorcycle satnavs for ECM 2017. Hopefully Garmin perform the same comprehensive pothole checks as you do on their routes!
Incidentally, the Czech map for my Zumo 345LM arrived yesterday. A large UPS truck pulled up, and two large guys walked my package to the door. The package comprised:
A 38cm x 32cm outer envelope, containing a 23cm x 17cm Jiffy bag, containing a 13cm x 13cm cardboard envelope, containing a 5cm x 4cm plastic box, containing a 3cm x 2cm SD card adapter which contained the actual microSD card. Oh, and a manufacturing/inventory log detailing the 24 steps required to package it, together with a printed warning sheet about the non-existent lithium batteries and an 8 page instruction manual explaining how to remove the microSD card from the SD card adapter!

I have just updated my Garmin as it did not have Czech Republic on it. Cost me £34 and you do not get the card, you download it off the net so you cannot pass it on! I thought it was a rip off, especially as the sat nav is less than a year old! Charlie

You can order the additional maps either as a download or on a card, but this is far from clear on their website! As they were the same price I figured that they might as well bear the cost of the card rather than me. They sent me a 10% discount voucher when I registered the Zumo, so that helped a bit.

I wished I had seen that you could get the card but hey ho, too late now! Charlie

Hi Alan and team. I just tried to update our 8 or 9 year old Tom Tom XL for our trip to Australia and you guessed it, I can no longer update. Long ago I had to start putting the maps on SD cards but I can't even do that now. So I'm in the market for a new one. My regrets from my Tom Tom purchases were - screen reflections - concern on water ingress - that never happened. In hindsight I should have bought a motorcycle one which is why I guess Alan you have bought the Garmin Zumo 345LM. I'll do some research of my own but if anyone else has tips on which devices suit the Cobra well that would be much appreciated. Thanks and look forward to seeing you all in Liberec Nigel
It's great that we'll be seeing you at ECM 2017 - we have a lot of catching up to do!
Eric Sabatier started a separate post about satnavs on the ECC General Discussion board, so I suggest people use Eric's thread to take the discussion further.
